Many of us make the new year a time for resolutions. Resolutions are made in areas of finances, health, relationships, etc. to ultimately be happier. We know that these resolutions are not an end in itself but a means to happiness. These are all good things but let’s not neglect our spiritual lives. David reminds us of where his joy comes from in this Psalm:
I have set the LORD always before me; because he is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken.
Therefore my heart is glad, and my whole being rejoices; my flesh also dwells secure. (Psalm 16:8-9 ESV)
Let’s set the LORD always before us in 2016 by being in the Word. We want to get our whole church to read the Bible together this year.
If this seems daunting to you, you may be surprised how doable it is. It takes about 70 hours to read the Bible from cover to cover.
“That’s less time than the average American spends in front of the television every month. In other words, if most people would exchange their TV time for Scripture reading, they’d finish reading the entire Bible in four weeks or less. If that sounds unworkable, consider this: In no more than fifteen minutes a day you can read through the Bible in less than a year’s time.” (Donald Whitney, Spiritual Disciplines)
Let’s have a joy filled 2016 in the Lord together.
